Objective and Scope

To provide non-binding, informed advice and recommendations to Building Code-related inquiries from code users, in the form of ‘Best Practice Guidances’. The scope of these services will include:

  • Providing support and advice to OBOA members in specific code-related matters and emerging trends/issues, including new technology, new building systems and green initiatives;
  • Collecting data around code-related issues and emerging trends;
  • Creating awareness around the use of the ‘Best Practice Guidances’ to promote uniform interpretation and enforcement of the Building Code Act, regulations, and other referenced standards and documents related to construction practices;
  • Consulting with members and other industry experts to inform Best Practice deliberations;
  • Creating a ‘one-stop-shop’ technology platform for OBOA members that will act as a forum for all Code-related inquiries.
    • Members will be able to access final ‘Best Practice Guidances’ through this channel, crowdsource further considerations, provide additional documentation and SOPs, so that this platform will act as an accessible, living, current electronic archive for Code professionals across Ontario;
    • This service will complement the OBOA’s Digital First vision, as an electronic archive of educational resources and ongoing dialogue;
  • Supporting the OBOA’s and local chapters’ educational efforts; and
  • Sharing recommendations for Building Code amendments with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
